About this notebook

I didn't grow up in museums. My interest in art arrived later, sideways, the way real interests usually do — a song that wouldn't leave me alone, a painting I kept thinking about days after seeing it, a photograph that made an ordinary street look like a secret.

What I noticed is that the technique was never the whole story. You can understand exactly how something was made and still not understand why it moves you. This site is my attempt to chase that second question — to develop curiosity on purpose, across different kinds of art, and to write down what I find.

I build websites too — this one included, by hand, as practice. That might seem unrelated, but it isn't: making things and looking at things feed each other.

What you'll find here

A journal of encounters with art forms as I explore them — what I looked at or listened to, what I understood, what escaped me. Members can log in to read the rougher work-in-progress notes before they become entries.
